Josh will continue to champion the Relief Subway Line and advocate for immediate single-fare Express bus service on Avenue Rd, Bathurst, Dufferin and Mt. Pleasant.
As anyone who takes the subway during rush hour knows all too well, Line 1 (Yonge-University-Spadina) is overcrowded. Midtown residents often find themselves waiting on the platform as at least 2 or 3 overcrowded trains go by- and without being able to predict if when we’ll be able to get to where we need to get to. Once inside, we're crammed in like sardines.
Express buses currently run on Avenue Rd and Mt. Pleasant. Unfortunately, they are infrequent, run in mixed traffic, and require a double fare. The evidence-based long term solution is to prioritize building the Relief Subway Line, but we also need additional transit options to relieve congestion on the subway that support our community now.
I am encouraged that my motion to move forward with planning for Express Buses was approved unanimously by my colleagues during the previous term of Council:
City Council requests the Deputy City Manager to (develop an) Infrastructure Implementation Strateg(y) that addresses the projected capacity of new and/or improved surface transit priority route options associated with the multi-modal access study between Midtown and Downtown and initial cost estimates and capital works required to implement the options
I will continue working to ensure that the TTC delivers Express Bus service on Avenue Rd, Bathurst, Dufferin, and Mt. Pleasant that is:
- Requires only a single fare
